What Happens During a Psychiatric Evaluation in Franklin?

A person is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.

At Saber Psychiatry, when we first meet with a client, we conduct a psychiatric evaluation. The goal is to understand the person’s medical history and discuss the symptoms they are seeking help with. Our evaluations are structured and incorporate answer-guided interviews and observations that sometimes involve laboratory tests.

Psychiatric evaluations are used to determine whether the symptoms require treatment, and the information we gather during the evaluation process is used to support a diagnosis and help create a treatment plan. The evaluation helps the medical professionals assess the need for immediate intervention or identify other long-term issues that may require follow-up care.

We will ask questions during the evaluation to better understand how the person’s physical health, and how they react and process emotions, hurts, and worries. We will ask if there have been any changes in the ability to function at home, school, or work. We will assess problem-solving skills and impulse control, and discuss environmental factors that may be contributing to challenges in the person’s social and emotional functioning.
