Saber Psychiatry is Available to Help You Take Control of Your Mental Health

When you hurt, your family hurts. Call Saber Psychiatry to teach you how to control your emotions, so you can take care of  yourself and your loved ones.

We are conveniently located in Brentwood, TN in the Nashville Metropolitan area.

We provide medication management but take a conservative approach – not all disorders require a prescription treatment plan, and many clients prefer to avoid medication until they have explored alternatives.

Saber Psychiatry treats the whole person, not just a chemical imbalance. We practice a holistic approach to psychiatry.

What is Behavioral Regulation?

While we may not have complete control over how we feel (more on that later), we spend our childhoods learning how to control our behaviors. If out-of-control emotions, impulse-control disorders, depression, or other problems become too challenging, we may lose control over behaviors, harming relationships, job- or school performance, and ourselves or others.

Just as children need to learn control tantrums and impulses, adults may need to reinforce (or learn) these lessons as well.

Behavior regulations in adults include emotional regulation as well as controlling our reactions. As adults, we do not have the energy to operate with the dial turned up to 11 all the time. It is exhausting and it doesn’t help defuse situations.

We can be angry, for example, when a driver behaves recklessly, but we don’t need to exhibit road rage. We also don’t need to go home and yell about the incident. These behaviors don’t make us feel any better; counter-productively, they make us feel worse and they scare our friends and family members.

At Saber Psychiatry, we work with you to help you identify the emotions and decide whether there’s a better approach to responding to these emotions. Rather than screaming, for example, you may want to exercise, read about defensive driving, or read a short story, or do a set of breathing exercises.
