At Saber Psychiatry, we treat everyone in the family and the patient as part of a whole system. We offer parent training programs and family therapy sessions to help everyone learn how to cope with the mental illness of a loved one and learn how to manage challenging situations with greater awareness. As the family learns how to support their loved one in treatment, the “whole system” strengthens and forms deeper family connections.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
The American Psychological Association describes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol, and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness.
The therapist helps the person identify unhelpful ways of thinking and behavior and teaches people suffering from psychological problems better coping strategies to relieve their symptoms, allowing them to become more effective in daily life. CBT therapist teaches the person to practice exercises at home to strengthen coping skills, helping the person to learn how to change their thinking, troublesome emotions, and behavior.
