If you think that it’s a good idea to see a psychiatrist, it probably is. At the very least, you’ll get an idea of whether you need a complete evaluation and a treatment plan.
If you aren’t sure, here are some signs that you and/or a family member may benefit from a visit to a psychiatrist. If any of the below strikes a chord, consider making an appointment:
Trouble sleeping
If it is a chronic problem not related to outside factors (raising a baby, uncontrollable noises), then you may have either a sleep disorder or emotional strains that damage your sleep. Good sleep is necessary for you to make good decisions and think clearly. It is also a vital part of your overall health.
Difficulty maintaining relationships
We don’t mean just romantic partners, but we include family members, friends, co-workers, and others you meet regularly. If you find it difficult to be around people or if people find it difficult to be around you, it may be time to get help regaining/maintaining the existing relationships.
Can’t think clearly
Depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, and chronic stress can make it difficult to make even simple decisions. If you notice forgetfulness, confusion, and other difficulties, call Saber Psychiatry.
Poor decisions
In adulthood, poor impulse control may be a sign of a non-psychiatric medical problem or of cognitive/emotional blocks. If you chronically make poor decisions, you may benefit from psychiatric help.
Loss of joy
The inability to enjoy activities/people that previously delighted you is a sign of substantial depression.
Trouble keeping a job/staying in school
This one may be related to difficulties thinking, poor decisions, maintaining relationships, or clear thinking.
Basic tasks fall apart
If you can’t muster the emotional energy to shower, buy food, or wash dishes, you may be suffering from depression, anxiety, or trauma.
Rumination
If past trauma occupies your thoughts, you may need psychiatric intervention to help you work through your emotions.
Let us help you through your difficulties. There’s no reason to slog through by yourself. Call us at 615.678.7839.
