If you or a loved one is struggling with anxiety symptoms that are keeping them from participating is school or other everyday[SS1] situations, Saber Psychiatry can help. We work with each person to develop the best treatment plan for their specific needs. The first step in seeking a diagnosis is to see your doctor to eliminate any physical issues causing the symptoms. Once physical problems are ruled out, seeking assistance from a mental health professional is encouraged. According to the American Psychiatric Association, many people never seek treatment because they do not realize there are effective treatment options available.
Each anxiety disorder has its unique characteristics, but most can be effectively treated with psychotherapy, also known as “talk therapy,” and medications. These treatments may be used separately or together. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps individuals change their thinking, reactions, and behaviors to reduce anxiety, is one common form of talk therapy. Medications will not cure anxiety disorders, and they can significantly alleviate symptoms. The most commonly prescribed medications include anti-anxiety drugs (typically for short-term use) and antidepressants. Beta-blockers, usually used for heart issues, can also help manage physical anxiety symptoms.
People can take various steps to manage anxiety symptoms and enhance the effectiveness of treatment. Techniques for managing stress and practicing meditation can be beneficial. Support groups, [SS2] in-person and online, provide a platform to share experiences and coping methods. Educating oneself about the disorder and helping loved ones understand it better can also be advantageous. It’s important to avoid caffeine, as it can exacerbate symptoms, and consult with a doctor about any medications being taken.
