At Saber Psychiatry, we appreciate how anti-depressants and other medications can make daily functioning possible for many people. We realize, however, that not everyone benefits from medication, and that medications have risks as well as benefits. We, therefore, do not automatically prescribe anti-anxiety drugs or other drugs without first discussing the benefits, risks, different medications, and other alternatives with you. For high-quality assessment and treatment –as well as the conservative use of medication – call Saber Psychiatry at 615-678-7839.

Saber Psychiatry Provides Comprehensive Psychiatric Care for the Whole Family: 615-678-7839
One of our goals is to get rid of the stigma associated with mental illness. Anxiety, difficulty regulating behaviors and emotions, panic, and other illnesses are treatable. There is no reason to carry these burdens.
Why Not Tough It Out?
When people have broken bones, tooth pain, or high blood pressure, no one suggests that they should “just work through it.” Instead, they urge the sufferers to seek treatment. Seeking treatment for anxiety, sleep disorders, difficulties regulating behavior, or other challenges is just as important as seeking treatment for physical disorders.
The easiest way to figure out whether to seek treatment is to ask yourself whether misery should be a constant companion. You deserve better, and treatment is available.
Seek treatment if:
- Daily functioning is a challenge
- Intrusive thoughts make concentration difficult
- You have trouble maintaining social and professional relationships
- School or work is a bigger challenge than it should be
- Sleep or attention is difficult
- You have aches and pains that don’t have medical causes
Alternatives to Medication
One of our therapies is Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
TMS is a non-invasive procedure that is often used when other treatments (including medications) have not been effective.
TMS:
- Delivers a series of magnetic pulses via a coil placed against the client’s scalp (near the forehead)
- Stimulates a region of the brain involved in mood control and depression
- May help ease anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, but it is approved for use in treatment-resistant major depression
- Outpatient
- Does not require anesthesia or other drugs
- Includes loud clicking noises, so you will wear earplugs
- Lasts from 30 to 60 minutes per session
- Administered 5 days a week for 4 to 6 days a week
- Sometimes called Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation or rTMS
