Saber Psychiatry Offers Services for the Whole Family: Call Us at 615.678.7839

Physical illnesses can have emotional/cognitive repercussions, and mental, cognitive, and emotional challenges can show up in the body as well. That’s why we often do a full medical workup. When you come to our Saber Psychiatry clinic, we treat you as the complex human being you are, not just a diagnosis waiting to be medicated.

Spotlight on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

A TBI can have multiple effects, most of which interact with each other. At Saber Psychiatry, we work with people who have suffered from a TBI to help them use the functions as they now exist and to teach them how to regain functioning when possible.

Since a TBI affects behavioral and emotional regulation, one person’s TBI can affect everyone in the family. We offer comprehensive family-systems therapy as part of the treatment plan.

A TBI is usually the result of a violent blow or injury to the head or body, such:

  • Explosions (war injuries)
  • Concussions (vehicle collisions, fights, falls…)
  • Bullets

TBIs may be mild and temporary or severe and life-altering.

Long-term complications may include:

  • Memory problems
  • Difficulty regulating emotions
  • Dizziness
  • Sensory losses (vision, hearing, smell/taste
  • New sensitivities to light, sound, smells, textures…
  • Cognitive changes or losses
  • Changes or losses in motor functions (tremors, movement disorders, paralysis…)

These problems may cause their own losses as people who suffer from traumatic brain injuries are usually aware that they have suffered losses, and they feel anxiety about coping with these changes.

Call Saber Psychiatry at 615.678.7839 for evaluations, treatment, and management.
