Saber Psychiatry Works with You to Combat Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are more crippling than temporary worries over money, jobs, health, or family members. They are persistent, hard-to-control feelings of dread. These feelings do not go away with time; they often get worse.

This kind of anxiety can interfere with school or job performance, relationships, or enjoyment of once relaxing or distracting activities.

Anxiety can afflict even very young children. Adults who have one or more anxiety disorders often showed their first symptoms in childhood or adolescence, so we treat all ages.

When to Seek Treatment

The easiest way to figure out whether to seek treatment is to ask yourself whether misery should be a constant companion. If not, and it shouldn’t be, seek treatment. It is possible to feel better.

More specifically, seek treatment if:

  • Anxiety, fear, or worry characterizes most of your day on most days
  • These feelings are difficult to control
  • They interfere with work, school, relationships, sleep, or health
  • The feelings are behind alcohol or other drug use
  • You have depression
  • Anxiety is linked to (or could be linked to) another health problem (TBI, stroke, high blood pressure…)
  • Feelings of fatigue OR restlessness
  • Panic attacks
  • Unexplained headaches, stomach aches, muscle pains
  • Sleep problems

Panic attacks are sudden periods of intense fear, discomfort, or fear of losing control even when there is no clear danger. While some people experience only one panic attack, others may develop a panic disorder, where there are frequent panic attacks – a few a year or even several a day.

During a panic attack, a person may experience any or all the following:

  • Feelings of intense fear, or impending doom (such as “I can’t drive home; I’ll get in a collision”) without an immediate cause
  • Feelings of losing control
  • Sweating
  • Crying
  • Pounding/racing heartbeat
  • Trembling/tingling
  • Chest pain (a person may believe he is having a heart attack or a stroke)

Depending on your history, Saber Psychiatry may look for an underlying medical condition (such as hyperthyroidism, irritable bowel system, or respiratory disorders) or whether the anxiety is a result of certain medications (including, ironically, an overly high dose of anti-anxiety drugs).

Regardless of the cause, we will help you work with the disorder so that it doesn’t control your life.
